ALL OVER SUBLIMATED DRESSES ARE IN FASHION NOW

Dye sublimation is a process of printing to fabric (and other substances) that provides the best quality, most durable printing option.  In sublimation, the inks are fused into the fabric as opposed to sitting on top of the baric such as in inkjet or screen printing. The process not only gives fabrics a softer touch after the printing, but it is also very durable. The color remains strong in outdoor lighting and after extensive washing.

Not too long ago – in the greater scheme of things – dresses and t-shirts fell into two very different realms and never the twain would meet. T-shirts could be printed (using sublimation dye processes, heat transfer, or screen printing), but the same was not true of dresses. Dresses, even casual ones, were usually made in solid colors, floral patterns, and other more conservative styles.
In the past decades, though, dresses have come a long way, and now all-over sublimated dresses – printed with the same technique that allows for bright, bold designs on t-shirts – are all the rage. We’re seeing sublimated dresses in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and styles, and we’re loving the way they look and feel.

Unlike some other printing techniques, sublimation printing permanently bonds the dyes of the design into the fabric of the shirt or dress. There’s no extra material and no plastic feel to the design. This makes it a great process for creating bright, bold designs for all kinds of dresses.
Sublimated Mini Dresses

We saw a lot of bright colored sublimated mini-dresses this summer, and though summer’s over, sublimation is not. One of the hottest looks this fall is a bright, warm print mini-dress over a pair of tights or thigh-high socks with a bolero or draped sweater.
Because sublimation printing works on a number of fabric types, it’s perfect for a lot of different dresses, too. You can wear a loose, slouchy t-shirt dress, a fitted tank dress, or a breezy silk, chiffon, or poly-blend dress that’s sublimated with your favorite floral pattern or an Ed Hardy inspired tattoo design. Sublimated minis look just as good with a pair of over-the-knee boots as they do with wedge sandals.

Now, you might think that all-over sublimated dresses are just for casual wear and not for your work wardrobe, but you’d be wrong. If you have a knee- or T-length dress in a sublimated pattern, you can pair it with a blazer and a pair of opaque tights in complementary colors. Add a pair of pumps with a low heel, and you have a fashionable, comfortable work ensemble.
The weather may be getting cooler, but your wardrobe can stay bright and vibrant with all-over sublimated dresses and the right accessories.
